It must be written in a professional and perfect manner like your resume requires to be. Mostly applicants spend too much time on their resumes but totally neglect the importance of cover letter and some forget to enclose it with resume when they submit it.

Like your resume, cover letter also demands equally to be emphasized and focused to win consideration of employer for interview. Both these tools (resume and cover letter) allow you to stand out from the big crowd of applicants. But some commonly found errors in cover letter make it less in consideration for applicant. These little but important mistakes destroy the worth of cover letter that need to be seriously considered and avoid.

These mistakes and errors can be some or more from the following:

  1. Don’t make grammatical, spelling and punctuation mistakes and errors. There should be put a check on by controlling the errors and proofreading by some expert.
  2. Avoid bad order of information bad startup. If the information is given in bad order, it leaves an impression of an unskilled and careless candidate. For instance, mentioning the date at wrong place, or a missing section of your introduction.
  3. Avoid using fancy material. Your resume and cover letter should consist of same quality and type of paper and ink. Use black ink on good quality paper and appropriate font.
  4. Avoid addressing the employer with wrong title. It is good to get beforehand information and address the employer with personalized title like name. But avoid addressing them by Sir or Madam. It looks more professional.
  5. Provide appropriate introduction. You should state properly how you came to know about the vacancy and how you can fit yourself to this position instead of directly going to your skills description.
  6. Avoid mentioning your shortcomings. Don’t try to call reader’s attention toward lack of your skills or experience. Rather than describing your shortcomings, try to emphasize on what you can do be best fit to the organization.
  7. Don’t misrepresent your experience. Avoid dragging a point too long and exaggerating anything that leads to misrepresentation.
  8. Avoid demanding statements. Don’t put any demanding statement in cover letter. If you need to know something about their possible offer, leave it to be discussed in interview feasibly.
  9. Don’t forget to sign your cover letter. Either you write your cover letter manually or electronically, it must be signed by you.
  10. Make sure of correct contact information. Check again your contact number, address and email mentioned is accurate.
