A profession which we adopt for earning our livelihood after specific education is known as career. Having proper career planning, we can safeguard our future. A person who shows carelessness in planning his career should not think of getting desired goals of job in the future. Planning is the foundation of our successful life. Everyone wants to have stability in future, for this purpose, career planning serves as a key to success.

When you analyze yourself and set some goals for you to attain in the future regarding your career, at the same time you also think about the nature of the job you want. Then you should make search about its criteria in detail such as educational requirements, skills, working conditions, salary, fringe benefits, promotion changes, which will help you focusing in the right dimension.

Career planning gives a chance to every one to analyze his characteristics. Career planning pushes you to think thoroughly about your positive and negative aspects, interests and creativity etc. Career planning basically starts, when a person finishes secondary, higher secondary level of education. After that level you may choose a career for you and start learning for that degree which may help to get a better job opportunity for you. Career planning makes it possible for you to design and formulate your future very smoothly. For instance, if you want to become a doctor or engineer in a specific field you may choose subjects/study related to these fields. This planning would be better for you after achieving your educational targets efficiently.

You may select your career from the following such as architect, teacher etc, or you may be planning your career in a particular field such as media, education, engineering, health care and health related jobs, construction, management, agricultural jobs, accounting and financial operations, creative jobs like writer, actor, artist etc. It all depends upon your interests and your capabilities.

Your all attempts will go in smoke if you don’t plan your career at proper time. If you think about your career planning after completing you education without any long term desired goals, or future consistency, it may create troubles to you.

For achieving career success you should keep in mind these points then you would be able to become a competitive advantage for your organization:

• You need to know exactly which type of job you want and start searching for that job.
• Seek out which barriers are keeping you away from attaining your career goals and try to find out the solutions to remove these barriers.
• Your resume is your marketing tool. It should be a factual account of your career and academic accomplishments, so be careful while writing your resume.
• Develop the following traits in you: dependability, detailed and devoted. These traits will prove you as an asset for your organization.
• Get organized and realized with your ideas, interests, needs, and abilities and search for the job.

Career planning is not only being done once in life. It strictly does not mean that once you selected a career is freezing point for you, and you can not do any thing against this planning. Whenever you feel that you have made a wrong decision while selecting your career, you may decide to join any other field which you think better for you. We are always learning and growing, our interests and needs also change throughout our lives. Career planning provides you flexibility to make adjustments that will be along the ways we learn throughout our lives.

Some people have a wrong concept that we should choose our career according to our parent’s wishes and ideas and neglect our own interests and abilities. Doing this can destroy our abilities. No doubt that our parents have some wishes and expectations from us, but we also have some wishes to do something in our lives. It is better for us to take guideline from our parents, seniors, educational counselors towards new dimensional fields as well. Teachers, professionals, career guideline websites or head educational consultants can also guide us to have a better approach for our future.

It is our right to have freedom to choose our career to put our skills in practical life. We must try to have an open mind to choose a best career for us at right time. We should not show carelessness in the selection of career as it is the base for our success in future.  Career planning is a process for which you have to pass through different strategies. These strategies may include:

• Analyze yourself
• Get information about different career dimensions
• Select the career which suits you
• Collect more information about that specific career and set some goals to attain
• Again compare the selected career with your interests
• Try to get support from you surroundings like family, friends, seniors, teachers, professionals, career guiders etc.
• Start working on the requirements of that career (i.e. qualification requirements) etc
• After getting qualified for the desired career, step in the practical life and make your resume
• When you have got the job, try to make yourself perfect for the job and keep learning.
